Alan has competed in 8 ISA World Surfing Games,the Olympic’s of the sport. He spent almost a decade on the Association of Surfing Professionals East Tour. A sampling of Alan’s many titles, prizes and accomplishments include;

• Only surfer to place in the top ten in Four different divisions(7th Junior 1986 England,9th Open 1992 France,Bronze LongBoard 1998 Portugal,6th Longboard 2002 South Africa) at the ISA World Surfing Games including winning a Bronze Medal in 1998 for longboard in Cascais Portugal
• East Coast Surfing Championships & NKF Pro wins in 1991 to finish 2nd overall in the ASP East Tour
• 1994 Natural Art $10,000 Top Dog at the Bowl Pro
• World Tour competitor 1988-1990
• Barbados National Junior Champion (3x), National Champion (7x), Senior National Champion (8x), Long Board National Champion (10x)
• President of the Barbados Surfing Association 1997-2002
• Longest standing member of the Barbados National Surfing Team

Alan has surfed and competed in Australia, Hawaii, Brazil, California, England, France, Guadeloupe, Japan, Margarita, Niijima, Puerto Rico, Portugal, Florida, North Carolina, Cape Hatteras,Virginia, New Jersey,Costa Rica,Panama,Trinidad, Tobago, Durban SA and Venezuela, but he learned to surf in Barbados.

At 9 years old on Burke’s beach (named in honour of his renowned sporting family) Alan found his sport. His competitive career began in 1984 at the Soup Bowl in Bathsheba where in his first event he placed 4th overall in the Junior Division, and in 1985 he won the Juniors & 3rd in Open Mens at 15 yrs of age in 8-10ft waves ,making him ‘Barbados sport’s person of the week’. Each year until 2002, Alan has qualified for the Barbados National Team; an achievement shared by no other Barbados surfer.

Alan today coaches Barbados top junior surfers including Barbados 2010 & 2011 U-16 & U-18 National Champion and the US East Coast Champion Josh Burke.2011 Barbados National Longboard Champion Jacob Burke and the 2012 Volcom grom Champion Andrew Rose.
